Solar Energy Powered Lighting Apparatus

The aim of this project is to tap the abundant solar energy and to provide low cost lighting solutions. The solar panel, battery assembly provides 16.4V of electricity. This energy is used to power a LED panel which acts as the source of illumination which consumes less power than conventional incandescent or fluorescent lamps and also provides a maximum brightness of 2 lumen. The power provided by the solar panel can be used to charge the battery in 8 hours which provides an uninterrupted power supply for 36 hours for the lights. The entire LED lighting panel absorbs about 1 watt of power for its operation which is approximately 16 times lower than the low power incandescent light bulbs in use now. This lighting apparatus can be used as a table lamp, night light or decorative light among its other uses.
